Obituary of Ercel Lucy Scarborough

Ercel Lucy Scarborough, 91, of Basom, went to be with her Lord in Heaven on Sunday (October 22, 2017) at the Buffalo General Medical Center. Ercel was born August 30, 1926 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Harvey and Viola (Woolfe) Phelps. Ercel will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, who loved playing with her grandchildren. She enjoyed attending her children's, grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's events and gardening, music, canning and games. She was a very active member of the Oakfield Alabama Baptist Church. Survivors include her children, Duane (Barbara) Scarborough of Batavia, Joyce (Ronald) Pritchett of Basom, Sharon (Mark) Smith of Long Island and Samuel (Julie) Scarborough of Basom; one brother, David (late Alice) Phelps of Falconer; one sister, Ella (Warren) Woolsey of Houghton; one sister-in-law, Opal Phelps of Batavia; thirteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Ercel is the wife of the late Gerald Irvin Scarborough and sister of the late Roger (late Mildred) Phelps and Norman (late Grace) Phelps. Calling hours are Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Avenue, Oakfield and also on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Oakfield Alabama Baptist Church, 2210 Judge Road, Oakfield, where services will follow immediately at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Ercel will be laid to rest in Reed Cemetery, Oakfield. Memorials may be made to Oakfield Alabama Baptist Church, 2210 Judge Road, Oakfield, NY 14125.
